The Turanza EL42 RFT is a Standard Touring All-Season run-flat tire designed for Original Equipment use exclusively on BMW 1, 3 and 7 Series cars, as well as Infiniti Q45 sedans and Lexus GS and SC sedans and convertibles. The Turanza EL42 RFT is designed to provide temporary extended mobility for a distance of 50 miles at up to 50 mph even after a puncture has allowed complete air pressure loss. The Turanza EL42 RFT was developed to combine the assurance of driving on a run-flat tire with the year-round versatility of an all-season tire that provides traction in dry, wet and wintry conditions, even in light snow. The Turanza EL42 RFT molds an all-season tread compound into a symmetric tread design featuring siped, rectangular tread blocks that combine snow biting edges with dry road stability. Lateral and circumferential tread grooves evacuate water out from under the tire's footprint to reduce hydroplaning and enhance wet traction. The tire's internal structure features twin steel belts reinforced by spirally wrapped nylon to stabilize the tread area and enhance treadwear, handling and high-speed capability. The structure of the Turanza EL42 RFT also features Bridgestone Side Support Run-Flat technology reinforced sidewalls to support the vehicle after a puncture causes a loss of air pressure.

These are really good tires, at least for a BMW 328 xi. I drive a lot on highways and two lane winding mountain roads driving back and forth from the SF Bay Area to the Sierras. In the mountains I'm often in snow. When traffic and conditions permit I push the car hard through corners and I always come out of the turns smiling. The more the speed the more the tires seem to dig in, always giving a 100% predictable feel from start to finish. I used to drive an Audi S4 with a variety of top end tires and there was no comparison. In that car, the handling in a really agressive turn was a bit squirally. When I test drove the BMW through the first high speed turn I was sold. That said, clearly a run flat tire is a different animal. Hitting pot holes or big pavement lips is unnerving. Occassionaly I swear the tire has bottomed out and I've wrecked my alignment. But I've never experienced any change in tire or car performance from those expriences. The car still runs dead straight. Yes, the tire can be louder than normal, but on nice highway pavement (smooth) the ride isn't noticeably louder than normal. At 20,000 it still has good tread but the traction in snow has decreased noticeably. When they were new the traction was terrific. I don't know why so many reviewers hate this tire. Had I not been driving the same roads in a range of vehicles and tires over the last 20 years I'd think I was missing something. I've yet to see a review of another RFT that suggests it's better than this tire for my kind of driving.
