The Blizzak LM-50 RFT (Run-Flat) is Bridgestone's Studless Winter tire designed to provide temporary self-supporting run-flat continuing mobility in the case of complete air loss due to a puncture during winter driving exclusively for the drivers of Toyota Sienna vans. Blizzak LM-50 RFT Studless Winter tires allow drivers to maintain their Toyota Sienna's mobility while providing winter driving traction on dry, wet and snow-covered roads. On the outside, the Blizzak LM-50 RFT shares the popular Blizzak WS-50's symmetric tread design that features flow-through grooves to help maintain good traction on wet and slush-covered roads while zigzag sipes and independent tread blocks provide the edges to help bite through snow. However, the Blizzak LM-50 RFT exchanges the Blizzak WS-50's Multicell compound for a more robust winter tread compound that can endure the additional stress and heat of being driven when flat. Even though these tires feature a single winter tread compound, they feature "snow platform" tread depth indicators to identify when the tire should be retired from winter service. The Blizzak LM-50 RFT tire's internal structure incorporates run-flat sidewall supports to temporarily carry the load in the event of air loss. Bridgestone's Ultimate Network of Intelligent Tire Technology (UNI-T) brings advanced tire technologies together, taking tire performance to a new level. This combination of innovative tire design, roundness and tread compound maximizes the tire's performance, ride quality and wear. Blizzak LM-50 RFT winter tires meet the industry's severe snow service requirements and are branded with the snowflake-on-the-mountain symbol. NOTE: Snow platform indicators (the equivalent of snow wear bars) are molded into the LM-50 RFT's tread grooves to inform the driver when ice and snow traction will be reduced as the tire's tread wear reaches the point where the remaining tread depth becomes less effective in deep snow. This is the beginning of my third winter with these tires. On any kind of snow their grip is about the same as on dry pavement, that is to say, excellent. I can bomb past drivers on snow covered mountain roads at 60 miles/hour, no problem. (Oops, I said I was an "average" driver.) I guess I get more agressive with these tires. It's so much fun to be able to drive any way I want to on snowy surfaces. My experience on a pure, smooth ice surface is that traction is not as good. It is easy to make the tires spin on rapid acceleration, or to put the car into a skid on hard braking. That said, with a little caution and more conservative driving, they do quite well on ice too. These tires are smoother riding, more comfortable and actually handle better than my Yokohama Avid all seasons. I notice that cornering is easier, and feels more "solid". Noise is minimal. I would definitely buy again. I am quite happy with these tires.
